"We're bringing home the Pride"

Welcome to Epes

The town of Epes was incorporated in 1899. Land for the right of way for Southern Railroad was donated by Dr. John W. Epes, with the stipulation that the town be named for him. The second stockyard to open in the state of Alabama did so here in 1936. Epes is 48 miles SW of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and 202 miles SE of Memphis, Tennessee. It is in Sumter County.

The citizens of Epes are some of the best, which makes Epes appealing to all that visits. Of the housing in Epes, Alabama approximately 82% is occupied by their owners. A good bit of the housing in the town is used seasonally or for leisure or vacation purposes. In many cases because of the beauty, and warmth that surrounds this small town. Add to that it's strong family values and vistiors become residents. Newer housing units are not uncommon in Epes. The property taxes in the town are low by Alabama standards.
